Our goal each day is to make a difference
in our patients lives and we do this by trying to become a premier health
destination in the region. One of the big challenges we faced, was when we de-bannered to become a professional services pharmacy and we had to get that
message out to the customers. We actually had to slow them down and explain to
them the extra benefits they could gain in-store from our professional services.
Through initiatives with our Primary Health Network we have 11 people trained in mental
first aid, 20 pharmacies have contributed in cancer screening within our area, and
three pharmacists have become accredited diabetes educators. SouthCity Pharmacy has committed to community health care. We value our position in the community here but also see an opportunity for us to get involved in health care system.
Pharmacy play its role as a place where people might go to for advice but we’re
hoping that our role is to take a little bit of a load off the health care system.
Due to the late opening hours of SouthCity we’re often the first port of call
for patients that can’t get into their GP, when you have staff that are really
well trained and they have an environment where they can sit down and talk with a
patient about their health goals, you can deliver some really fantastic outcomes
to the patient. We’ve recently redeveloped our Easy Clinics consult
room, just simply because our original space wasn’t big enough, so now we have a large space that we can deliver these services in. SouthCity Pharmacy really a pharmacy have got all of the lung function devices, they have been using this now in
pharmacy to identify patients with COPD and emphysema, in that way I think they
will be helping the community by early identifying these cases that
sometimes go undiagnosed for many years. Wagga is also known as the city of good
sports and often these people can be carrying an injury throughout the
season. With our specialist line of sporting braces, we aim to assist these
people throughout the season and prevent their injury from getting any worse. The
team at SouthCity Pharmacy are by far our biggest asset, they’re the lifeblood
to the business, they invest their time, energy and imagination every day into
the pharmacy. Four years ago I’d never owned a pharmacy and we’d never been up to APP and we took inspiration from the past finalists and who would have
thought four years later we’d be up on the main stage.
