Meet ADC Nurse Practitioner Caroline Vickers

Music plays I am Caroline Vickers, I am an adult gerontologist
primary care nurse practitioner here at The Austin Diagnostic Clinic in Internal Medicine. When I’m taking care of patients I try to
balance their psycho-social outlook, looking at your physiology, the biology part, making
sure that we’re assessing the disease process that is going on. I address the psychological standpoint as
well. Making sure that emotional and psychological
needs are met. And a social outlook making sure that patients
have access to the resources in the community that they need to improve their health. I chose to be a nurse practitioner because
I always knew that primary care was the field that I wanted to be in and I come from a family
of health care providers. I have two grandfathers who were primary care
providers here in Austin; two grandmothers who were nurses. One of whom was one of the earliest advanced
practitioners here in Austin working as a CRNA. So it does kind of run in our family. I’ve actually had a patient who was treated
by my granddad when I lived in Giddings. One thing that is very important for patients
to remember is that regardless of what is going on in your life, whether you are taking
care of kids or loved ones, stressed out at work, you have got to put yourself as a priority
and make sure that you’re addressing your healthcare needs, your emotional needs and
putting yourself first so that you can continue to be well. Music plays then fades.
