I really wanted to be a surgeon from
when I was a little girl I got an invitation in the mail to come to an
open house at the knee rat College of Podiatric medicine and they showed me
what podiatry was all about and I just fell in love and I started shadowing
different podiatrists people come into the office in pain. I can really help
them through it and listen to all their problems and even discuss issues that
they may not even know that can create problems in the future we can do a lot
of preventative care we’re at the Freedman Health Center for the
Performing Arts it’s a partnership with the Actors Fund so you see everyone and
the entertainment industry we see the actors performers the dancers the ushers
costume designers actors fun wanted at a health clinic to help the performance
art industry and higher Mount Sinai to kind of run the office for them we have
playbills in the waiting room and we’ll play show tunes so it’s a fun patient
experience here the most important thing is to have a really good patient-doctor
relationship and I think having that trust and understanding between the two
people really helped get the best care for example say you need this medication
but then you’re you’re comfortable enough and open with me say you know I’m
not gonna take this medication I don’t really like taking medication well then
we have to find a different way to help you I always say in Manhattan especially
your feet or your cars you really need them and people don’t really think about
it until something goes wrong and you need a podiatrist and when I can help
someone and then I can see them in the show the next day on Broadway
it’s a really amazing feeling to be able to let them pursue their dream you
