KAKE NEWS SHOWED YOU VIDEO OF ABUSE GOING ON AT A LOCAL NURSING HOME. THE VIDEO WAS HORRIFYING. WE CONTINUED TRACKING THIS STORY– WANTING TO GO BEYOND THE VIDEO .. . TO MAKE SURE THAT IT AFFECTS CHANGE. THE VIDEO IS DEVESTATING. YOU SEE A REGISTERED NURSE TAKE 60 YEAR OLD DONNA COLCHER OUT OF HER WHEELCHAIR AND DROP HER ON THE FLOOR, TURN OUT THE LIGHT AND LEAVE THE ROOM AFTER 25 MINUTES THE SAME NURSE WALKS IN…..DRAGS HER TO THE CENTER OF THE FLOOR LEAVES AND TURNS OUT THE LIGHT ONCE AGAIN. THIS IS JUST ONE INSTANCE IN FOUR DAYS OF VIDEO THAT THE STATE CALLED” EVIDENCE OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT.” SOON AFTER KAKE NEWS FIRST AIRED THE VIDEO , A FELONY CHARGE WAS FILED AGAINST THE NURSE INVOLVED. BUT THE VICTIMS FAMILY AND” WE” WANTED MORE CHANGE . WE SHOWED STATE REPRESENTATIVE BRANDON WHIPPLE THE VIDEO IN MAY. HE PROMISED HE WOULD HELP CHANGE THE LAW. LAST WEEK, REPSRENTATIVE WHIPPLE MET WITH DONNA COLCHERS FAMILY AT THE KAKE STUDIOS ..TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE BILL HE INTRODUCED LAST WEEK . CURRENTLY ONLY” STATE” BACKGROUND CHECKS ARE MANDATED FOR THOSE WHO TAKE CARE OF OUR LOVED ONES. THIS NEW BILL WOULD BRODEN THAT TO INCLUDE “NATIONAL” BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR ALL NURSES” AND” NURSES AIDS. THE BILL IS BARE BONES….BUT WHIPPLE SAID HE WANTED TO GET THE COVERSATION STARTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Brandon Whipple) THE COLCHERS ,ALONG WITH ELDERLY ADVACATES, ALREADY HAVE TWO SUGGESTIONS ONE;. “STRICTER CONSQUENCES FOR THOSE WHO ARE RUNNING NURSING HOMES WHERE ABUSE OCCURS.” (ed colcher, danielle colcher) IN FACT, IN THE REPORT ISSUED BY THE STATE LAST MAY, EMPLOYEES OF VICTORIA FALLS SAID THEY STOPPED REPORTING ABUSE TO ADMINISTRATORS BECAUSE IT QUOTE “TOOK TOO LONG …AND NOTHING WAS EVER DONE ABOUT IT ” THE COLCHERS SAYS IF ADMINSTATORS WERE HELD ACCOUNTABLE, THEIR MOTHER MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABUSED THE OTHER SUGGESTION….THE OWNERS OF FACILITIES NEED TO BE “FORCED TO HIRE MORE PEOPLE”. STAFFING REQUIREMENTS HAVENT BEEN UPDATED SINCE 1980 (joanna wheatly) IN FACT THE STATE ALSO SAID IN ITS REPORT THAT VICTORIA FALLS “FAILED TO IN FACT THE STATE ALSO SAID IN ITS REPORT THAT VICTORIA FALLS “FAILED TO POVIDE SUFFICIENT NURSING STAFF TO PROVIDE NURSING AND RELATED SERVICES TO MAINTAIN THE WELL-BEING OF THE RESIDENTS” VICTORIA FALLS WAS SLAPPED WITH ONE OF THE LARGEST FINES IN DEPARTMENT OF AGINING HISTORY….OVER 150 TOUSAND DOLLARS.. ….BUT FOR THE COLCHERS AND OTHER ELDERLY ADVOCATES IT WAS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE HOUSE BILL 21-72 IS CURRENTLY IN FRONT OF A HOUSE COMMITTE. I WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK ITS PROGRESS. TOMORROW I’LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEOPLE WHO THE STATE SAYS ABUSED DONNA IN THAT VIDEO. THAT INCLUDES THE NURSES AND THE HOME’S ADMINISTRATOR. YOU MAY BE SURPRISED HOW IT APPEARS NO STATE AGENCY WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

  1. There should be a Country-Wide background check…years ago when I was working in a group home I watch someone's be a non-verbal boy in the face with a belt… I told!! Charges were brought and she literally had a job the next week one state over!! So here I was thinking that I was making a difference and I didn't make a difference at all!! So going to court losing my job for telling over the Thanksgiving holidays…right before Christmas, going to Court , did not stop her from working in the field !! Not only that but her two daughters remained in that home!!!the group home manager is still a group home manager to this day… I called him for three days and he would not respond!! Absolutely insane!! I was left in the home for more than 48 hours without any relief and you cannot leave!! The only the only thing that happened is she has to work in a different state!! Probably still working in the field to this day!!

  2. First of all the nursing homes are way under staffed!! Like she said 16 to 1? So in 8 hours you're supposed to get 16 people dressed? 16 people fed two meals… Cleaned up after 16 people? 16 people kept dry and safe? 16 people bathed? And let alone sit and give them attention? When would you have time to sit and speak with them? give them attention let alone keep them clean and fed?? These home make a crap ton of money… And yet they are greedy!! You can have felony charges and work in a different state!! Let alone the one staff member that they have for the 16 people make a little over minimum wage.. and you wonder why there's so much abuse and neglect?? This job can be highly rewarding if you are given the tools, money and staff!!

  3. You have idea. Please, I can’t get into it I can only tell you sincerely: Don’t put your mum or dad in a nursing home. Don’t do it. Hire a private Carer and get help instead.

  4. If family members would stop being selfish locking there family member up that are differcult to deal with & take care of them then stuff wouldnt happen. If the family doesnt want to deal with the person then other people arent going to want to deal with a differcult person day in day out. Stop over working the emploees having them have so many patients to deal with.

  5. I have been reading a lot of the comments about this video, and most people think it is best to keep their loved ones at home with them and not put them into a nursing home. What if their house is not able to take another person, what if their house has not got the correct facilities required, what if they are not well themselves and cannot look after someone with special needs? The list is endless. As for the ones who are bleating on about them being overworked and underpaid, they decided to work in this field no one forced them! This does not excuse this kind of treatment! These people are vulnerable people and deserve, at the very least, care and attention.

  6. DONs and nurses are way worse than CNAs. CNAs don't get paid as much as nurses but do way more and actually care 90% more than nurses do

  7. Nurses need to enjoy their job! The money is great and they get time and a half for over time! Their job is to help the Elderly and get the Meds that the Patients required and Temp. And Blood pressure! Better Pay for them just to take care of our Loved Ones! We need more Videos in their rooms!

  9. I'd LOVE to share my story as an lpn who has been a nurse for 16 years, worked in 6 facilities for elderly care and walked out of my last one March 13th 2019 as a nurse Unit Manager. I am ready to hand over my nursing license in return for the government taking my 70 grand in student loans I can't pay. I've just reported resident abuse this past February and nothing was done at all. By the DON, ADON or even the administrator. I sent an email to the State Board of Health and gotten no reply and most recently called their corporate number and filed a report. They know exactly what I did. They "lost" my blood pressure cuff among around 120$ worth of other personal items that were packed up for me. The ADON called me on a Saturday night and rambled on drunk fir 48 minutes telling me how irresponsible I was being. I have that conversation recorded and the Administrator had no interest in hearing it. It was definitely physical abuse. Three other people and the resident along with her roommate all know for sure this happened. The cna who did it still worked there full time when I walked out and as far as I know still does. I HATE how our laws are so lax on this. I cant imagine myself knowing I'd have to go into one myself. I know that I'd rather die.

    Btw: all six that I worked in….I saw really awful things go on. Over and over.

  10. TIME TO SHUT THE NURSING HOMES DOWN ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY GET RID OF THEM THEY ARE NOTHING BUT LEECHES THAT STEAL MONEY FROM INNOCENT RESIDENTS WHO DONT HAVE A VOICE I HATE NURSING HOMES FOR WHAT THEY DO TO PEOPLE

  11. Aides get paid like $10 for all the work they do. I volunteered at a nursing home. It was awful.

    The CNAs had soooo much shit to do and so little time. They had like 16-20 residents for every 2 CNAs. And everything they had to do took a lot of time.
    Changing diapers when the residents try to fight and yell and push them away, feeding them while getting yelled at, bathing them, even getting them out of beds and into wheelchairs was a long and hard process, and then they had to clean the room and change their beds etc etc etc.

    I honestly don't know why these women get jobs as CNAs. You don't get any respect for the job and you get paid shit. Smh

Its easy to say that a daughter or a son will takecare of thr parents when they get of old age…its a full hand to do it…only 6 out of millions will do it…i know i seen family strugle and work…its very hard….words out of ur mouth is easy to say..but to do it its a struggle…i dont want my kids to struggle or b a burden in thr hands…and wrk at the same time…life is not easy…🙏

  14. They need at least 1 aide per hall and at least 2 that float helping all of the halls. The same for Nurses. It should be 1 Nurse per 6 people. These nursing homes make at least over $100,000 a month. If they didn't tie up their money with lawsuits, they would have $$ for decent coverage.

  17. The people that work there aren't RN's. They're people they've hired that can't find another job. They don't pay them squat and hire criminals and drug addicts.
